Zanzibar Light dining table, carved in the ZANZIBAR style, in mongongo wood

The light shade mongongo wood dining table version is just as precious as the dark shade. Similar but unique, it is hand-carved and bears the artistic imprint of Zanzibar’s most esteemed artist and specialist in this type of African art product – Michael Mtungwa Shija.

Resembling a huge door or a frame, the dining table is a piece of furniture that becomes the subject of discussion and admiration wherever it is placed. Its design features straight lines, inlays, symbols, metal inserts – all part of the African art of Zanzibar, which together with the European contribution of modern and useful design, form a complete work of art.

A very interesting difference between the two tables lies in the metal elements: the pointed ones present on this product are taken from Zanzibari art in Indian culture, where they were used on doors to protect them from elephants. Unlike the metal elements with pointed tips, which are of Arab influence and had a strictly decorative role.

And if one detail carries so much significance, then even more so the whole object of art, which is a rare, rare, hard-to-obtain, rare object that we are privileged to have available.
