Zanzibar Dark dining table, carved in the ZANZIBAR style, in mongongo wood

Stately, original and special, the dining table is a piece of furniture that becomes the subject of discussion and cause for admiration in any space it is placed. It is the result of Zanzibar’s most appreciated artist, a specialist in this type of African art product – Michael Mtungwa Shija.

The Zanzibar style of sculpture is special because it is found strictly on the island of Zanzibar, defined by a blend of cultures: Indian, African and Arabic, specific to Oman.

Straight lines, inlays, symbols, symbols, abstract decorative metal elements – all part of African island art – are found in the design, which together with the European contribution of modern and useful design, form a complete work of art. Unlike the other hand-carved dining table in mongongo wood, this one has metal inserts with fretted tops, being specific to the Arabic influence, with a strictly decorative role.

And if one detail can tell a whole story, how much more so all the rare, hard-to-obtain mongongo wood dining table we are privileged to have available.
